The North Pinjarra Community Christmas Party was held on Saturday 10th December, 2016 from 3.00pm-7.00pm. A tribute to the past and forerunner to future Community Christmas Parties, this event – from its planning to its delivery brought out the best in North Pinjarra residents. The BOI team worked closely with the North Pinjarra Progress Association and residents, who created and managed an engaging community event. The Carcoola Handymart collected presents for Santa to handout to local children prior to the event. In total, 91 presents were delivered to the shop by residents and distributed at the Christmas Party. Many of the event logistics were arranged through resident connections to local clubs, organisations and businesses. The Pinjarra Fire Brigade drove Santa (a local dad) around the streets of North Pinjarra between 3-4pm and delivered him to the multitude of local children waiting with great anticipation. All the children gathered in the North Pinjarra Community Hall, which had been set up and decorated by residents the day before. Santa and his elves handed out the 91 presents. Residents enjoyed entertainment – the Peel Petting Zoo, sausage sizzle, free Christmas Cake, drinks, fairy floss, bouncy castle and balloon animals. All the activities were free. The Community Christmas Party was a true collaboration of North Pinjarra residents discovering and sharing assets and working together to bring back an element of community life they cared about. Many lessons were learnt for next year, but more important was the commitment that there would definitely be a Community Christmas Party ‘next year’. The Shire of Murray provided funding for this event.
